The Atlantic Yacht Club has found a new partner in the Panerai Transat Classique 2012, in the shape of Officine Panerai, an old promoter of classic sailing via Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. The regatta will reportedly start on the 2nd of December 2012, featuring a high number of classic sailing yachts.
To honor the challenge and because they are sponsors of the regatta, Panerai has recently unveiled the special edition Luminor 1950 Rattrapante 8 Days. Boasting with an engraving with the logo of the Panerai Transat Classique 2012 on the caseback and a 47 mm titanium case, this exquisite timepiece will be manufactured in a limited edition of 500 units. One of them will be awarded to the winner of the fabled regatta.
This particular model, a rattrapante, is also known as a “split seconds chronograph” – a system which comprises twin column wheels and a vertical clutch. The movement is a manually wound Panerai caliber P.2006. The button located at the 8 o’clock position, embossed with the letter C, from Chronograph, controls the first split seconds timing hand, while the button at 10 o’clock, embossed with the letter R, from rattrapante, controls the second split seconds timing hand.
The timepiece sports a titanium bezel, hours/minutes/small/seconds chronographs, a staggering movement, “sandwich dial” with linear 8-day power reserve indicator, plus a screwdown titanium caseback.
