Kawasaki has announced it will commence production of the supercharged supersport class motorbike called the Ninja H2R in 2015.

The extremely powerful bike is named after the legendary 750 cc Kawasaki H2 Mach IV, introduced by the Japanese company in the early 70s. The revived model was recently showcased in Cologne and has since generated quite a buzz in the media.

In terms of power, the Ninja H2R is simply incredible. According to Kawasaki, its supercharged 998 cc inline-4 DOHC engine can develop a whopping 300 hp, 50% more than its closest rival. This would allow it to potentially obliterate the current production motorcycle speed record of 194 mph held by the Suzuki Hayabusa, as the estimated top speed for the Ninja H2R is somewhere around 250 mph (400 km/h). If you think rocket science is needed to create something this fast, you’re right – Kawasaki Heavy Industries` aerospace division actually contributed to the design of the engine.

While the Ninja H2R is a track-only motorbike, Kawasaki will also release a less scary, road-legal version called the H2. The latter will be revealed during this year’s EICMA show in Milan, in November.
