It was back in the 1950s when Lister Cars started to impress the world with their amazing results in the motorsport world and their own version of the Jaguar D-Type, produced in a very limited run and featuring a magnesium body. Called “Knobbly” Jaguars, these special vehicles were extremely light and expensive, but they were meant to race and win, with the legendary Stirling Moss driving one towards success at Silverstone, in 1958.
Nowadays, the revived Lister Motor Company has decided to unleash 10 more similar vehicles, complemented by Sir Stirling’s endorsement. The Lister Jaguar Knobbly Stirling Moss edition is a faithful recreation of the 1950s roadster, with a few revisions adding to the overall appeal of this beauty. The magnesium bodywork is still here, with low-drag extended front fenders, covering up a lightweight tubular steel chassis – one that’s even lighter than the original vehicle.
The engine sump, clutch and the differential case were also made from magnesium, while the classic green and yellow colors were picked to cover up the exterior, with a solid silver number plaque signed by Stirling Moss adding to the exclusivity of these vehicles – especially if you consider this is the second sportscar the great Moss has ever endorsed, following the special Mercedes SLR McLaren speedster.
Powering up these outrageous 10 vehicles is a recreation of the Jaguar D-Type’s 3.8-liter inline-six, built by Croswaite and Gardiner. This powerplant develops 337 ponies and 295 lb-ft of torque, enabling the 841 kg (1,854 lbs) vehicle to do 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, 0 to 100 mph in under 10, and max out at 184 mph.
But these special Jaguars are not only meant for some track fun, since they’re also road legal and they’re perfect for historic racing events as well. It will take 4-5 months to build one of these cars, and Lister will charge you £1 million for the privilege of owning one; however, for that kind of money you will also enjoy a delivery by Stirling Moss himself.
