Harley-Davidson is a legendary American brand, known for its heavyweight motorcycles which have become basically synonymous with biker culture. In a move that might be seen like the end of an era, Harley-Davidson has announced it plans to release its first electric motorcycle called Project Livewire.
The project is advanced enough that the company has deemed it ready to be showcased, so Livewire is being taken on a cross-country tour through 30 dealers along the famous Route 66 starting in the final week of June. It’s expected that some people will even get to ride this ground-breaking bike, while chopper aficionados in Canada and Europe will get to see it when the tour goes international in 2015.
Harley-Davidson promises “tire-shredding acceleration and an unmistakable new sound”, though it’s hard to imagine how at least the latter can be achieved with the sort of wimpy electric motors we’ve seen so far. If the Milwaukee-based company can innovate in this department, it will be quite an achievement – so we’re keeping our eyes (and ears) open.
