MB&F’s horological marvels have been usually defined by a distinctive angular form and optical prism displays, but the brand’s new Horological Machine 8 is something else, adding a touch of high-octane, Can-Am race car inspiration to the entire picture.
Honoring the discontinued turbo-charged racing series, also known as the Canadian-American Challenge Cup, the eye catching MB&F Horological Machine 8 CanAm features an angular 18kt white or red gold with titanium 49 mm case, manufactured with the aid of 60 components, and it’s able to resist 30-meter deep waters.
It comes with sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating on both sides, rounded edges, as well as dual optical prisms and polished “roll bars”, adding to a seductive appeal to the unique design of this timepiece.
Those interesting roll bars were milled from solid blocks of grade 5 titanium and hand-polished to gleam just like tubular mirrors. Movement is provided by a Swiss automatic three-dimensional “engine”, developed in-house by MB&F and inspired by a Girard-Perregaux base caliber with 30 jewels, 28,800 vph and 42 hours worth of backup.
Other impressive features include the automatic battle-axe winding rotor in 22kt gold, overlapping discs displaying the bi-directional hours and minutes, not to mention the marine blue or dark brown, hand-stitched alligator leather straps, complemented by an 18kt white or red gold folding clasp.
