Baume & Mercier are having a two-for-one release, so to speak; the brand’s partnership with Shelby Cobra is well-known by now and the 25th anniversary of McCall’s Annual Motorworks Revival is also an occasion totally worth marking.
As such, we now get to enjoy four limited edition “Legendary Driver” chronograph watches, designed to honor four drivers who accepted the challenge of taming the powerful Shelby Cobra CSX1228 over fifty years ago.
These limited edition pieces were developed with the specific drivers’ heritages in mind, something that becomes apparent once you get a glimpse of the super-charged aesthetics. Each of the four Baume & Mercier Legendary Driver Capeland Shelby Cobra shows off a 44 mm case, available in either stainless steel or ADLC-steel.
The sapphire crystal houses a tachometer and the menacing Cobra emblem, while the drivers’ racing number, No. 15 (Dan Gurney), No. 50 (Ken Miles), No. 97 (Dave MacDonald), and No. 96 (Allen Grant) is also part of the design. Matching the color theme of the winning vehicles, the limited-edition watches look outstanding.
Movement is provided by the durable Valjoux 7753, which delivers 48 hours worth of power reserve and it’s also visible through the case back. The sporty design and racing legacy are surely enough to get people interested in these watches, but you may want to consider that each of the four Baume & Mercier Legendary Driver Capeland Shelby Cobra watches will be part of a 15-piece run and will be available exclusively in North America, at $4,850.
