That may not be the best way to introduce a cool product, but it’s the truth. Richard Paige, of Rpaige Watch Co., has teamed up with Mark Carson to design the stylish art deco Rpaige “Crash of ’29” watch, which is now seeking for backers on Kickstarter. Mark imagined the chic case, dial and hands, while the watches will feature the restored vintage pocket watch movements used by Rpaige watches.

Crash of 29 is actually the second Rpaige watch designed by Mark, after the pretty successful Rpaige Duo-Face reversible watch, for which Mark penned down the case. After that hit, it became pretty clear that this partnership had to go forward, and the wonderful Crash of 29 is just the next big step, pushing the envelope of design, without going over the top, balancing size and style in a stunning way.

The art deco lines are easily recognizable on the case, dial, and hands of this timepiece. But this isn’t a tribute to any particular vintage watch, borrowing its inspiration from the geometric forms found in great examples of Art Deco architecture.

Hinting towards the great architectural revolution of New York City, in the 1920’s and 1930’s, this stylish watch is a dream come true for its creators. It celebrates a golden age for American pocket watch manufacturing, as well as an expanding period for Art Deco in the US.

This design will be available in a limited run of just 49 watches, each of them featuring a fully restored vintage American pocket watch movement from the 1920s or 1930s. Hand assembled in America using newly produced cases, dials, and hands, the Rpaige Crash Of ’29 production watches will also feature a sapphire crystal and exhibition back.

With a warranty of 12 months and a price-tag starting from $2,400 on Kickstarter this seems like a good way to mark the Christmas holidays.
