A member of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI), Andreas Strehler is a well-known name among watchmakers everywhere around the world. The talented designer is currently working for his own brand, and in the past he has helped create complex movements for Harry Winston (the Opus 7), the Maitre du Temps (Chapter 3) and H. Moser as well, just to name a few.
His “Sauterelle à lune perpétuelle” is recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most precise lunar phase wristwatch, so when Strehler announced a new timepiece, we just had to pay attention.
He unveiled the first Papillon timepiece back in 2008 and the Papillon d’Or you see here is the newest version of that watch, featuring a large solid gold bridge in the form of a buttery, with two sapphire crystal gear wheels and a white fired silver dial ring.
On the back of the Papillon d’Or, a power reserve indicator makes sure you get to your destination on time. With an elegant finish, the manual wind caliber incorporates an incredibly small differential gear operating at a frequency of 3Hz / 21’600 vph with a double main spring barrel.
The Andreas Strehler Papillon d’Or can be had in two versions: with a platinum case and blue alligator strap, or featuring a 18k pink gold case with a black alligator strap. I’m not sure how much it costs, but I will say that this is an awesome addition to an already exquisite collection.
