Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde

Isn’t that what we all daydream about? To remain forever young, wrinkle-free and with the ability to move mountains from their place. Back to reality, some dreams actually come true, with the brilliant Swiss watchmaker Jaquet Droz revealing a wonderful twist of its iconic Grande Seconde watch.

Based on a historic pocket watch, the new Grande Seconde revealed itself as a versatile design worthy of inspiring endless other projects. Classic and modern in the same time, the latest iteration of this exquisite timepiece comes with a mineral dial in two limited series: the Off-Centered Meteorite and the Stromatolite.

For the first option, the Off-Centered Meteorite, a small meteorite composed of iron and nickel, that actually survived the entry through our planet’s atmosphere, has made its way onto the dial – following cutting and impressive finishing efforts, of course. That’s how each dial is one of a kind, although the gray hue is always there, working its magic with the pink-gold case.

Stromatolite, on the other hand, does not come from outer space. It is an earthly mineral that dates back to the Precambrian period, which is arout 3.5 billion years ago, with colors ranging from brown/beige and gold to a reddish gray and pink. When it comes to sizes, there’s a 39 mm model, a 43 mm model and a 39 mm model set with diamonds – they will be limited to 88 units each, with the most expensive one set to cost $36,800.

The 39 mm versions contain the Jaquet Droz automatic Caliber 2663P, backed up by a double mainspring and a 68-hour power reserve, while the diamond-studded version displays 280 tiny diamonds totaling 1.67 carats, which should be more than enough to impress your significant other.

The new Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde watches also come with gray or black alligator straps, while an individual serial number has been engraved on the back of each case – regardless of your choice. Which one is your favorite?
