With only 25 lucky fans that will be able to enjoy it, the HYT H4 Alinghi is a lovely timepiece equipped with a light source, right under the rider at 6 o’clock. HYT has hidden two LEDs there which should, in theory, flood the entire dial with white light in a wonderful way.
Come nightfall, the red fluid will make things even more interesting, bringing this skeleton architecture to life. The most interesting part is that the source of energy for the LEDs is purely mechanical. The invisible regenerator has been nestled between 4 and 5 o’clock, and can be activated by the push-piece located opposite on the case middle.
To put into simpler words: it’s like when you were a kid, and had to pedal to get that small light bulb to light your way. This cool illumination is only possible for five seconds, after which the mechanism must be reinitialized.
We should really give the watchmakers from HYT some credit, as the extreme miniaturization, the curved shape, and the fact that this is actually a first for the company, must have been one incredible effort. The H4 Alinghi will feature a carbon case, red liquid, white light, the team’s logo on the seconds disc and a strap made from sail canvas.
Before the H4 Alinghi, lighting up a dial was only possible with a battery, but it’s incredibly refreshing to see companies and designers head on different paths. Not sure on price-tag though, but that’s irrelevant, right?
