Based on the very popular Divers Sixty-Five, the newest timepiece from Oris, called Carl Brashear Limited Edition, was designed to celebrate a man who conquered his opponents and disabilities.
Carl Brasher was the first African-American to be part of the Diving & Salvage School and also the first African-American U.S. Navy Diver, a man who lost his leg on March 23 1966, during a bomb recovery operation.
His distinguished career in the U.S. Navy lasted over 30 years, and actually inspired the 2000 film Men of Honor. The Carl Brashear Limited Edition is the very first Oris watch to be constructed from bronze, a naturally aging material that’s very popular these days and one that was used for the construction of deep-sea diving helmets back in the 1950s.
Measuring 42 mm in diameter, the bright and shiny case of this new Divers watch from Oris will darken over time, as copper reacts with CO2 and moisture. The unidirectional rotating bezel was also made of bronze, with a raised minute scale specifically made for tracking dive times.
The Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition also comes with a lovely dark blue dial, hiding an automatic mechanical movement underneath and an image of Brashear’s helmet on the case back.
Water-resistant at up to 100 meters, each of the limited edition watches – only 2,000 pieces available – will develop a unique patina, making every owner proud of their own accessory, that would get an individual look in time.
