Compartes Chocolatier in Brentwood, California welcomes you with a custom-made neon sign proclaiming “Chocolate is art”, referencing the motto of an iconic chocolate shop once frequented by Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe.
The brightly colored chocolate bars lining the walls will surely get you in the mood for sweets, but there are more surprises waiting for you inside. Chocolatier Jonathan Grahm is the one who designed each of the chocolate-bar wrappers. Featuring a jolly, art deco theme, most of the wrappers are based off photos that actually inspired him.
Approximately 50 types of chocolate bars and 100 kinds of truffles are currently on offer, including everything from seasonal fresh fruit from the farmer’s market to shreds of doughnuts from local shops.
But Grahm’s latest invention, the Compartes x Reserva de la Familia Tequila Dark Chocolate Truffles, is truly amazing, a limited-edition set of truffles released just in time for Valentine’s Day. Made in partnership with Jose Cuervo, these truffles come decorated with a red-and-blue pattern, resembling the artwork on the Reserva de la Familia tequila bottles.
The velvety extra-añejo tequila resulted from blue agave, harvested at its peak and matured in French and American oak barrels. After three years, this liquid elixir pairs perfectly with dark chocolate. So if you want to give a tasty gift to your significant other, these tequila-infused chocolates could be perfect and at $17.95 for a five-piece truffle box, there’s no reason not to get one.
