What could be one of the best acquisitions worth exactly $17,5 million? We know the answer right now: the Olavsvern Naval Base, a formerly secret submarine base in Norway. The Royal Norwegian Army is listing it for sale. It’s not new on the market, de facto, having been first put to sale during January 2011. What drew us to the offer was its publishing on a Norwegian website.
Initially, the base had cost $494 million to build, back in 1967, which sort of sets its current selling price among today’s real bargains. Peepers can find it outside the city of Tromsø, off the Northern Coast of Norway. The property covers a total area of 13,500 square meters above ground, it boasts a 2,500 square meter quay and encompasses a mountain resort of around 25,000 square meters that features huge workshops, a warehouse, a tunnel system, an emergency power system, fuel cells, an office space and a dry dock for boats and submarines.
The big name behind the building process of Olavsvern is NATO, in collaboration with the U.S. Forces and The Norwegian Navy. It has been intensively used during the Cold War by American submarines assigned with missions into the Arctic Ocean. It has been working as a submarine base until 2003, when it was converted into a supply base. Regardless of the fact that electricity alone will cost around $1 million alone, it opens an entire array of purposes to anyone who can afford such a place. Interested?
