The Moon Orbiter Tourbillon was recently unveiled by watchmaker proficient Romain Jerome. The staggering gadget comes with a flying tourbillon and will only be available as a limited edition of 25 units, each of them with a price tag of $115,000.
Themed on the “DNA of legends”, the Romain Jerome Moon Orbiter Tourbillon is subtly gorgeous yet extremely original, in terms of appearance, with genuine moon dust incorporated into the dial, while the Apollo 11 DNA is visible in the case. Indeed it is integrated part of the Moon-DNA Collection and measures 44.5 mm x 48.5 mm x 20 mm. Decency is not enough for RJ in this case, as we can easily notice the overemphasized measurements involved.
It even comprises parts from the Apollo 11 spacecraft, most probably molten metal implemented here and there, as well as loads of sapphire, five crystal sapphires to be precise, which reveal the precious innards. The minutes and hours indicators are located on the dial side, the “+ and -” indicators for the power reserve are found at the bottom of the dial, while the flying tourbillon is anchored by an arm extending from the lower side of the movement.
The piston-like spring-loaded slugs are all pretty good looking. Furthermore, the dial and movement bridges are actually finished in the same space theme, bearing the hex and star pattern probably reminiscent of a lunar surface. As for the internal parts, the movement is DNA a la La Joux Perret with loads of angles to be viewed from.
