Please excuse our tiny joke, but once we got a glance at the overall color theme of this exquisite watch, we couldn’t help but think about Iron Man’s suit, and our question is… does he really need a watch?

Regardless, Richard Mille is teasing us once again with their new RM 35-02 Rafael Nadal Quartz-TPT watch, introduced at the French Open tennis tournament – a good choice, since this timepiece is part of the collection dedicated to Rafael Nadal.

Aside from the striking red and yellow color theme and the exotic case material, this model is the first automatic watch in the line. Since this is a mechanical watch, Quartz refers to the material of the case – produced by a company called NTPT and machined at Richard Mille’s ProArt facility.

Please note the white highlights layered into the case, with the red color obtained from a resin developed within NTPT. According to Richard Mille, the resulting material could withstand accelerations of up to 5,000 Gs, but we really doubt you could put that statement to the test in real life.

The RMAL1 movement, with its grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridges, is visible through an anti-reflective sapphire crystal exhibition caseback, yet another first for the Rafael Nadal collection. Owners will probably appreciate that the brand’s patented variable geometry rotor is also visible through the caseback.

With a power reserve of about 55 hours, and operating at 4Hz, Richard Mille’s latest release will surely not disappoint. The brand’s watches are always about lightweight, exotic materials, and avant-garde designs and the Richard Mille RM 35-02 Rafael Nadal Quartz-TPT watch seems to fit the bill, especially since it’s also available in an NTPT carbon version.

Owning one, however, will cost you at least 135,000 Swiss francs. We’re sure Tony Stark could afford one, what about you?
