Mercedes-Benz doesn’t seem content to just create awesome automobiles – like other prominent brands, every now and again they venture into foreign territory. This time, the German giant has teamed up with world-famous Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara in order to create two exclusive surfboards under the MBoard moniker.
The first of them is made from cork supplied by Corticeira Amorim, a Portuguese company which is the world’s largest cork producer. The piece has already been completed and shipped to McNamara.
The second board is made using aviation foam, which the surfer himself brought from California to Germany for Mercedez-Benz to work with. What makes this material so great is the fact by utilizing it, the surfboard will not need any stringers – the longitudinal reinforcements will mark the seam in construction. According to McNamara, this will allow it to better handle the powerful waves he expects to encounter, while also providing a lot of flexibility.
Unfortunately for surfing enthusiasts, the MBoard surfboards have been created exclusively for Garrett McNamara and it doesn’t look like they will become widely available anytime soon.
