Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak collection has been hypnotizing people for many years, four decades to be more exact. The iconic collection is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and in order to mark this unique landmark, the Swiss brand has created a new timepiece for women in collaboration with Florentine jewelry designer Carolina Bucci.
This contemporary take on a classic design, dubbed as the Royal Oak Frosted Gold, features an 18kt white or rose gold 37 mm case, along with an AR-coated sapphire crystal and a sapphire display back. On the inside, a Swiss automatic Audemars-Piguet in-house caliber 3120 handles its business thanks to 40 jewels, 21,600 vph and a power reserve of 60 hours, a movement that’s even more exquisite thanks to a 22kt engraved rotor.
But these watches are even more impressive from an aesthetic point of view. The strap and case work together to seduce anyone that dares to look their way, reminding everyone of a piece of fine jewelry thanks to the ancient Florentine technique.
Carolina Bucci used this special technique for her bespoke jewelry pieces before and left it to the Audemars Piguet’s experts to adapt it for the Frosted Gold timepiece. The Royal Oak is one of the brand’s most iconic watches, and improving upon its design is an incredible challenge.
But by treating the finish of the gold on case and bracelet with this special Florentine effect, the altered gold surfaces make this watch really stand out, giving it fresh new look. If you’re at SIHH 2017, feel free to take a closer look at this dazzling timepiece.
