Boom XB-1

This interesting jet concept, called Boom XB-1, is based around a pretty simple idea: that the New York to London travel time could be so short that people could actually enjoy a weekend break from one city to the other. The supersonic plane should dramatically cut your travel time, with the prototype before you actually representing a scaled-down version of the full-sized XB-1 jet.

Flying at a jaw dropping cruising speed of Mach 2.2, this futuristic plane would be 2.6-times faster than the average commercial airliner, while tickets would not break your budget. Why didn’t we think of that sooner?

According to Boom founder and CEO, test flights will begin next year, with the first commercial flights of the Boom XB-1 to begin in 2023. The company plans on fabricating these super fast planes by using lightweight carbon fiber composite, thus resulting in a fuel-efficient and silent flying experience.

With such ideas put in motion, you may very well extend your destination list and go crazy. We’re looking at flight times of six hours between Sydney and Los Angeles, and since the company is promising decent airfares, thereare many reasons to get really excited about this project. So, where would you go for the weekend?
