The winner of the prestigious Quality & Value Award at the 2015 World Superyacht Awards, Farfalla is a true sailing beauty, launched by the South African shipyard Southern Wind exactly one year ago, in May 2014. This splendid 31.78 superyacht is actually the third SW 102 to be completed, but it’s completely different from the other two vessels.

The owners of this gorgeous sailing yacht have been involved in the build-up process from start to finish, telling the designers exactly how their ideal sailing yacht should look like. They wanted an aesthetically pleasing yacht that was capable of bluewater sailing, with low noise levels, comfortable, elegant and featuring a layout that would be great for charter guests as well.

And that’s exactly how the Farfalla has been built, featuring naval architecture from Farr Yacht Design and an exclusive interior and exterior design courtesy of Nauta Yachts. The yacht could accommodate up to eight guests in four cabins, a spacious owner’s cabin located forwards and three guest cabins, plus a crew of up to nine in the crew quarters.

Inside, the yacht is warm and inviting thanks to the lovely combination of blues and whites, with light teak furniture and flooring. Thanks to the bright panoramic windows on the coach roof and the upper deck saloon, the whole ambiance is light and airy.

The unusually tall ceilings of Farfalla also contribute to this unique feeling of space and airy atmosphere. This was also a special request from the yacht’s owners who have a particularly tall family.

Outside, the expansive flush deck is one of the most interesting features of this yacht, providing more room to fully enjoy the outdoors and the sea. This sleek sailing yacht also comes with a tender garage that can house a small dinghy and a mainsail captive winch and this is actually the first time Southern Wind has added a tender garage to their yachts.

When it’s not driven by the breezes of air, Farfalla is also powered by a Cummins QSB 6.7 MCD diesel engine with 305 horsepower, more than enough to take this beauty to a top speed of 23 knots and a relaxing cruising speed of 9 knots.
