The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS has already been released in Europe and it’s already looking like a spectacular addition to the prestigious carmaker’s line-up.
It is powered by a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat six engine which churns out 500 hp and 460 Nm (338 lb-ft) of torque, which is then sent to the wheels through a seven speed PDK transmission. This allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds and from a standstill to 124 mph (200 km/h) in 10.9 seconds. Or to put it differently, this new Porsche went around Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 20 seconds, a whole 9 seconds quicker than the Carrera GT and 5 seconds faster the standard 911 GT3.
A small but notable part in this performance increase is due to the fact that the vehicle is 10 kg (22 lbs) lighter than the previous GT3, which was accomplished through the use of lightweight elements such as a magnesium roof panel (which lowered the center of gravity), as well as carbon fiber luggage compartment lids.
Inside, the seats are based on the carbon fiber buckets of the 918 Spyder, while Alcantara leather is also featured in abundance. The standard Club Sport Package includes a bolted-in roll cage behind the front seats, preparation for a battery master switch, fire extinguisher with a mounting bracket, and a six-point harness for the driver. The optional Sports Chrono Package, on the other hand, features the Porsche Track Precision app for the driver’s smartphone and uses GPS to measure lap times, which provides extra data like vehicle speed and lateral acceleration, in addition to acceleration and deceleration in the driving direction.
As we’ve mentioned at the beginning, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is already available in Europe, with a price tag of £131,296 (the equivalent of about $198,000) in the UK. The sports car is scheduled to be released in the US in early July, where it will cost $175,900.
