The beautiful story of Swiss watchmaker EBEL started over 100 years ago in the small Swiss town La Chaux-de-Fonds, the birthplace and most important centre of the watchmaking industry, when Swiss industrialist and watchmaker Eugene Blum and his wife Alice Lévy decided to launch their own watch brand, named after the initials of: Eugene Blum Et Lévy.
Founded back in 1911, EBEL was built on the two pillars of masculine and feminine values and qualities, united by the most powerful force in the world: love. Eugene Blum was focused on functionality, while Alice Levy had a keen eye for beauty and details, the perfect marriage between form and function which became EBEL’s founding philosophy and made all their creations immediately recognizable
As decades went by, EBEL made a name for themselves with a lot of timeless designs, featuring gentle curves, sharp edges and emblematic shapes and motifs that would charm everyone with sheer sophistication. And in 1982 the iconic Kissing E logo has been born – the perfect seal for a brand founded on love – which became the emblem of a success tale that just got even more impressive in time.
For the brand’s 75th anniversary in 1986, EBEL acquired the famous Villa Turque, designed and built by the brilliant Swiss architect Le Corbusier right in the heart of La Chaux-de-Fonds. A true work of art, this incredible villa has been influenced by Corbusier’s travels in Turkey, featuring reinforced concrete and a majestic equilibrium between forms and materials that stood the test of time.
Villa Turque, or Maison EBEL as it’s also called right now, is probably the perfect match for EBEL, a company whose motto is ‘Beauty Marries Function’, combining the timelessness, functionality and aesthetics of every watch the brand has ever unveiled.
That’s exactly why the Swiss watchmaker has decided to release a special collection of timepieces dedicated to this unique symbol, especially since 2016 is an important year for Villa Turque, EBEL celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Maison EBEL, and also the 100th anniversary since the conception of this beautiful villa.
The collection has been called La Maison EBEL Limited Edition and includes several chic yellow, white or pink gold watches, featuring either a matching bracelet or a cognac-colored, midnight blue or black alligator strap, with a unique pattern on the gleaming mother-of-pearl dial that was inspired from the oval window of the villa.
Powered by reliable Swiss Made automatic movements, these timepieces will charm you with a sunray guilloché moon phase, representing the passing of time, and an open case-back that reveals the superb customized oscillating weight, which pays tribute to the powerful relationship between the brand and the architectural wonder that has become its home, the Maison EBEL, with a chic inscription of the Villa Turque logo.
