For Mercedes this is a premiere – the first time they mount an AMG engine and performance package on a full-sized crossover SUV, the GL-Class. They’ve equipped the car with the AMG 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbine engine whose output reaches a massive 550 HP (410 kW) and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque and an AMG Speedshift 7-Speed automatic transmission, along with an all-wheel-drive system.
The car’s huge weight doesn’t have a chance in stopping it from reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in quick 4.9-seconds, and an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Setting it apart from the stock model is a set of large air intakes on the front fascia and a 4-pipe exhaust.
The Mercedes GL 63 AMG will be acquirable from Mercedes dealers from November, in Europe, while those over the Atlantic will only be able to get themselves starting the first quarter on 2013. The prices of this fabulous contraption are yet to be made public, probably in excess of a hundred thousand dollars.
