Textron’s Bell Helicopters is currently developing the Bell 525 Relentless, a super-medium-class helicopter featuring cutting-edge technologies, impressive performance figures, and even a few luxurious features that will certainly appeal to discerning clients.
The aircraft was designed for the very demanding task of supporting offshore oil operations, so it won’t have any problems with anything a private owner could possibly throw at it. Its spacious 88 square-foot cabin can be fitted with various tech systems and entertainment amenities; this, and the oversize swivel seating, conference layouts, and mini galley make the new 525 more akin to a private jet than a “mere” helicopter.
This is also the first commercial helicopter with a fly-by-wire cockpit, with sidestick controls and a fully integrated touchscreen Garmin flight deck. The 525’s top speed is about 178 mph (286 km/h), and its range is 575 miles (925 km).
Expected to fly for the first time this spring, deliveries are set to commence next year. The price tag for the Bell 525 Relentless has yet to be revealed.
