A glittering rainbow is always the stuff of dreams; I remember staring at it, every time I got the chance, when I was a kid, and even now I do it once in a while. It’s difficult not to be mesmerized by it, and the same goes for the Chopard Imperiale Joaillerie Watch. Introduced at Baselworld 2016, Chopard’s latest creation is an addition to the Imperiale Collection, vibrating in all the colors of the rainbow – thanks to 581 sapphires.

It has become apparent for a long time that the Swiss watchmaker has mastered the art of creating exceptional timepieces, but this extraordinary rainbow effect was possible by using different colored sapphires, with shades ranging from purple, to blue, red, yellow and lime green.

Subtle shades cover the entire color spectrum, with the aforementioned 581 sapphires totaling an astonishing 47.98 karats. The sapphires were set on an 18 carat rose gold watch and form a color scale that completely covers the dial, case, not to mention the bracelet. Amethysts found their way, somehow, on the crown and the lug-covers.

Powering up this jewel is an impressive Chopard caliber, a self-winding mechanical movement with a 60-hour power reserve. It’s up to you to decide if the new Chopard Imperiale is bordering tacky or overkill, or if this is a breathtaking creation; nonetheless, ignoring it is impossible.
