Luxury hotel chain Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has recently opened a new 289-room retreat in Lhasa, Tibet. It’s only fitting that the brand has finally come to the Himalayas, since the mythical paradise on earth of Shangri-La is supposed to be set somewhere in these mountains.

The hotel offers 262 stylish guestrooms and 17 spacious suites, each offering generous living spaces and luxurious amenities. The theme of these accommodations is clearly Tibetan, with local culture, dress, and art being proudly showcased, which makes staying here quite a cultural experience as well. Then, of course, there’s the wonderful view of the nearby gardens, mountains, as well as the Potala Palace. In fact, both Potala Palace and Norbulingka Palace, two of Tibet’s most impressive landmarks, are within walking distance of the hotel.

Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa also offers travelers extensive dining options. There’s the more casual Lodger’s Lounge, or the Chinese-themed Shang Palace, but the most impressive spot is Shambala, which specializes in Tibetan and Yunnan cuisine.

With its perfect setting and contemporary comfort, this excellent hotel in the heart of Tibet seems to be another jewel in the chain of the Shangri-La brand.
