Sanlorenzo has released the details of its brand new 58Steel series and confirmed the delivery of the first hull, Perla Lunar, to its owner. The second unit of this series is already under construction, part of a steady march at the yard as it broadens its steel-built range.

The 58Steel follows the 57Steel but moves on a wider footing. The beam now reaches a cool 11.25 metres, and the interior benefits from the extra space in ways that become clear when walking through the deck plans.

Zuccon International Project, the design firm that has been shaping the yard’s language for years, drew the exterior of this vessel. The lines remain measured and deliberate, but the broader platform gives the yacht a calmer, more grounded stance.

Sanlorenzo’s leadership has highlighted the new diesel-electric hybrid system as the defining change.

It’s the first time the Italian shipyard has used this configuration on a steel yacht. Five 425-kilowatt generators, a 1-megawatt-hour battery pack, and azimuthal pods make up the system.

The numbers are straightforward; the goal is quieter movement and periods of zero-emission operation at anchor. Sanlorenzo’s engineers described the setup as less a technical flourish than a rethinking of how the lower decks should be organised.

The engine room is now arranged on a single level to free more than 40 square metres of volume.

Sanlorenzo placed that space with intention, most notably in the beach club, that features a big, three-sided opening at the stern and includes a hammam, a gym, a beauty salon, and a bar. Standing there, you can probably see why this gain mattered; the area feels less compressed than similar zones on yachts of comparable size.

On the main deck above, an elongated infinity pool defines the aft section. Inside, the saloon keeps to a low-key palette, that’s warm but not ornamental. Forward of it sits the “Supreme VIP” suite, a sizeable cabin positioned where many yachts in this range still place communal spaces.

The lower deck carries two full-beam VIP cabins and two guest cabins. Crew quarters take up the forward part of the hull.

The most insulated space, the owner’s suite, occupies the upper deck’s forward area. Floor-to-ceiling glazing, a private terrace with a pool, and a sequence of rooms – an office, dressing area, spa-style bath, a lounge that doubles as a cinema – give the owner’s deck the feel of a small, self-contained retreat.

Aft, an outdoor dining area opens over the stern. The sundeck holds additional guest space, with the wheelhouse set forward.

Sanlorenzo’s Style Department handled the interiors, choosing dark woods, Calacatta Borghini marble, mother-of-pearl accents, and a range of soft champagne tones. The combination avoids flash, leaning instead toward a quiet, lived-in warmth the yard has been refining across recent launches.

Speaking about the new yacht, Executive Chairman Massimo Perotti pointed to a shift toward low-noise, lower-impact operation, and CEO Tommaso Vincenzi noted that the hybrid system shaped more than the engineering, influencing how the interior volume was distributed and how natural light travels through the decks.

The 58Steel joins a group of metal yachts that has grown steadily since Sanlorenzo introduced the 40Alloy in 2010. The series now stretches from the Alloy and the 500Exp to the X-Space models and the larger Steel platforms up to 74 metres.

The new hybrid system, modest in appearance but significant in layout, suggests where the shipyard may be concentrating its next efforts.
