Echoing similar announcements from HTC and Apple, Samsung has recently unveiled its new flagship smartphones: the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
Both devices have now fully switched from plastic to metallic frames with Gorilla Glass 4 backs, a significant improvement compared to previous versions. Another very visible upgrade is the massive jump in the resolution of the 5.1-inch Quad HD, Super AMOLED display, which is now 577 pixels per inch.
Both the GS6 and the GS6 Edge are compatible with Qi wireless chargers, and also have fast-charging technology – meaning you can get up to 4 hours of use from just 10 minutes of charging.
In terms of technical specs, both devices now feature octa-core Samsung Exynos processors, as well as 3 GB of RAM along with 32/64/128 GB storage options. As you might have noticed, the processor is no longer a Qualcomm, and there’s no microSD card slot either, which are significant differences compared to previous models. Both phones are also equipped with 16 MP rear cameras and 5 MP front cameras, along with 2,550 mAh (GS6) and 2,600 mAh (GS6 Edge) batteries, and run Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Another notable trait is the fact that the devices are amazingly thin – 6.8 mm (0.27-in) for the Galaxy S6 and 7 mm (0.28-in) for the Galaxy S6 Edge. They’re also quite light, tipping the scales at 138 g and 132 g, respectively.
Available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (Galaxy S6 only) and Green Emerald (Galaxy S6 Edge only), Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones are set to be launched on April 10.
