Does the name MB&F ring any bells? It should, as the innovative Swiss brand has built a solid reputation among watch enthusiasts, thanks to its innovative movements and unorthodox designs. Recent designs have been inspired by retro-futuristic ideas and classic cars, although most of us still think about the HM4 series, for good reason.
Echoes of its influence can be felt throughout MB&F’s latest designs, with the original HM4 prototype inspired by aviation – specifically, a WWII fighter plane, the P-40 Kittyhawk fighter aircraft. But today we have a chance to drool over something totally special.
The brand new MB&F HM4 Kittyhawk is a unique piece, showing off an unusual 52 mm titanium case with an aggressive shark mouth motif reminiscent of the iconic P-40 Kittyhawk fighter plane, that was hand-painted by the acclaimed miniature painter Isabelle Villa.
This HM4 Kittyhawk model leaves the raised rivet design behind and goes for a streamlined look; the paint sits perfectly flush with the rest of the case surface with a layer of clear varnish having been added over the entire case body.
The twin dial layout of the HM4 Kittyhawk will get you hypnotized in a matter of seconds; the right dial handles timekeeping, while the left dial was dedicated entirely to the oversized power reserve indicator. Meanwhile, the skeletonized counterweighted arrow hand, inspired by aircraft instruments will surely grab everyone’s attention.
With its radical asymmetric case design, the HM4 Kittyhawk also deserved a bespoke strap, specifically a distressed saddle brown leather example with tan contrast stitching.
Powering up this incredible timepiece is the manufacture MB&F HM4 hand-wound movement, featuring a pair of tandem mainspring barrels, and an impressive 72-hour power reserve. A set of 311 components and a massive 50 jewels will keep everything in check, and the lucky owner of this one-off piece mesmerized.
This amazing watch can be easily matched with other retro-looking goodies – a jacket, a motorcycle, and, possibly, a P-40 Kittyhawk fighter plane. Now, that would be perfection and transform any man into a real-life superhero. Any takers?
