BMW has recently unveiled the Vision Future Luxury concept, a hint, as the name suggests, at the German manufacture’s long-term perception of contemporary luxury.
The concept features a Liquid Platinum Bronze exterior, with a sizeable twin kidney grille flanked by laserlight headlights. It also has carbon fiber air deflectors, chrome trim, OLED taillights and a carbon strip that hints at the car’s carbon fiber and aluminum chassis. In fact, carbon fiber is used extensively throughout the vehicle, which brings its weight down significantly.
The driver is surrounded by a wraparound instrument cluster consisting of three intermeshing displays which use 3D technology, showing vehicle-related information, speedometer, rev counter and so-called “context-adaptive supplementary data”, and also infotainment information. The model also has a “contact-analogue” BMW Vision Head Up Display, which according to the manufacturer enhances the driver’s view of the real world by projecting information directly into his line of sight onto the road.
The passengers also have access to twin-rear display as well as a removable Touch Command Tablet. This gives them access to both trip related information, as well as online entertainment.
The interior, as we’ve suggested earlier, also benefits from the use of lightweight materials, in addition to subtractive modeling. A functional level containing user interface components, control and display interfaces and lighting functions sits on top of an initial layer of carbon fiber, with everything topped off by a final layer of fine materials such as wood and leather, providing the car with a feel of luxury.
The Vision Future Luxury concept is a great preview of things to come from BMW– and with this in mind, we can’t wait to see what production cars the German manufacturer will actually release in the years to come.
