Jaquet Droz has decided to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Goat with the release of two Ateliers d’Art timepieces featuring the animal.

The watches feature significant symbolic images. The goats springing from the top of a mountain represent the conquering of new goals, while the plum blossom, which opens its petals in winter, represents the promise of rebirth and rejuvenation that the New Year brings.

These images require a tremendous amount of skill to create. The plum blossom, for instance, was created using champlevé enameling. This very delicate technique requires the artisan to hollow out the metal according to the required design, then fill the minute spaces with enamel, fired and hand-polished.

These exquisite timepieces are available in an 18-carat rose or white gold case measuring 41mm in diameter, and are water resistant to 33 meters. Movement is the same Swiss automatic Jaquet Droz in-house caliber 2653 with 28 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 68 hours, while the dials are 18-carat gold, with champlevé enamel in two colors, hand-engraved and hand-patinated, with 18kt gold goat relief appliques and blued or gold hands. Finally, the watches come on a rolled-edge, hand-made black or grey alligator leather strap with an 18kt rose or white gold ardillon buckle.

The Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Relief “Goats” will be released as limited edition collections comprising just 28 pieces for each model.
