Swiss watch designer Yvan Arpa is the brilliant mind behind ArtyA, an up and coming watchmaker that came to life in 2010 and soon gained a world-wide reputation for its creative timepieces. This year, the ArtyA Cumbere Tourbillon and the ArtyA Son of Sound Magic Black Tourbillon make for an incredible pair to behold.
Both new creations show off the brand’s distinctive guitar-shaped case and the same ArtyOr alloy, made out of gold and recycled bullets, not to mention black PVD. Interesting enough, this beautiful case is not water resistant, even though we can’t understand why.
The ArtyA Cumbere Tourbillon features large sapphire crystals, which cover the front and back of the case, thus allowing owners to enjoy the mechanics within. The watch includes a unique hand-wound flying tourbillon movement, designed by Yvan Arpa himself and executed by Manufacture d’Horlogerie Contemporaine.
The generous 100 hours of power reserve should come in handy, while the movement contains 19 jewels, most of which are visible, and beats at 21,600 vph. The X-shaped structure was inspired by the X-bracing used to support guitars, hand-engraved with bones and skulls following what ArtyA calls the “Blackwork Engraving” style.
The ArtyA Son of Sound Magic Black tourbillon, on the other hand, has the case flanked by two large pieces of sapphire crystal front and back. The same movement as before received an entirely different finishing treatment, with the X-shaped bridge and structure of the Son of Sound Black Magic Tourbillon showing off an all black PVD-blasted treatment.
Both watches are one-off pieces, complemented by a matching black crocodile strap. The ArtyA Cumbere Tourbillon is priced at CHF 185,000, while the ArtyA Son of Sound Magic Black Tourbillon will cost CHF 170,000 to own.
