We’ve talked about the otherworldly landscapes of Cappadocia before, but this is the first time we’ve heard about a high-end hotel taking advantage of the location.
Called Yunak Evleri, this unique retreat was completed in 2000 and consists of 40 rooms spread among seven cave houses carved into the limestone cliffs of Ürgüp. In a remarkable feat of engineering, lighting, Wi-Fi, and plumbing have been brought to this remote area, while Ottoman antiques also do their part in creating an atmosphere worthy of a high-end establishment. Thus, the rooms come with a white marble-adorned spa with either a steam shower or a Jacuzzi, an outdoor patio overlooking the surroundings, and also feature hand-carved details right in the rock: medallions, nooks, arches, windows, and doors.
The rooms are very silent and naturally cool, even when it gets really hot outside (the Anatolian sun can be a real scorcher!). Like any great hotel, there’s also a great restaurant located on the rooftop, which serves local homemade foods for dinner and an open-buffet breakfast.
To make the most of your stay, you have to explore the unique Cappadocian landscape, and whether you want to do that on foot, horseback or by bicycle, the staff at Yunak Evleri is there to help with organizing the outing. And for a truly unforgettable experience, take to the skies in a hot air balloon and get a bird’s-eye view of this extraordinary place!
