Throughout the years, the safari has been a constant source of inspiration for Ralph Lauren, who has created a variety of items, from sunglasses to perfumes, inspired by the wild, yet beautiful African landscape. This time the high-end French brand is releasing a set of Swiss-made timepieces under the name Black Safari.
The Black Safari Flying Tourbillon, powered by the mechanical self-winding Calibre RL167, offers a view to the complication though the dial, right into the heart of the movement. The matte black dial itself features deeply etched concentric grooves around the 12 o’clock marker and is edged with rich brown elm burl wood, a design which is not only reminiscent of Ralph Lauren’s classic 1938 Bugatti, but also gives the piece something of a robust, ourdoorsy feel.
The RL67 Chronometer comes in a black stainless steel case available in 45mm and 39mm and is water resistant to 100 meters. At the heart of the watch lies a mechanical self-winding Calibre RL300-1 with a power reserve of 42 hours. The movement is hand-decorated with vertical Côtes de Genève stripes and circular graining known as perlage.
