London and Singapore-based design agency Viewport Studio has created the latest version of the Virgin Atlantic Airways upper class bar and cabin interior, part of the Boeing 787-9 set to fly over Europe. The two entities have also collaborated in previous years, when Viewport Studio worked on Virgin Atlantic’s Airbus A300 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
This particular design features a wider and taller cabin interior, with cathedral-like archways at the entrance highlighting the improvement. The basic idea behind the new Upper Class bar involves the creation of a veritable social hub inside the airplane, allowing travelers to move around freely and interact with one-another. To this aim, the is now angled, facing the passengers as they board and encouraging them to gather around, while also allowing for easier interaction with the crew.
A great deal of thought has also been invested in the aesthetic side of things. Thus the interior boasts a stylish and subtle color scheme, with the lighting being mostly responsible for setting the mood.
The highlight of the new layout is certainly the so-called Wander Wall. This is a social space where passengers can go to get a drink, a snack, or a newspaper. This wall is an intriguing element in its own right, with a series of inset recesses and boxes suspended off the wall and reflective surfaces at each end.
