If you thought Faberge eggs were amazing, wait till you see this exquisite egg called the Mirage.
This fabulous piece is adorned with more 1,000 (yes, one thousand!) diamonds, 100 of which are a unique cut. But there’s more to Mirage than meets the eye (which is probably how the thing got its name). If you can open the egg, you’ll find it has an ornate globe, hand-crafted in 18kt gold inside. Furthermore, the globe’s top shell can also be raised to reveal a beautiful rock crystal dove, perched on a gold olive branch. Both the dove and the olive branch were hand carved in gold and represent symbols of peace, a cause the owner of the piece seems to be quite fond of.
Mirage is the result of three years of work by the world’s best craftsmen, assembled from three continents. Just the diamonds that cover the shell of this extravagant egg are worth more than $2 million, with the total cost amounting to about £5 million (almost $8.5 million!). The owner, however, identified simply as an anonymous (not to mention wealthy) collector, is said to be unwilling to sell – especially with Easter coming up.
