Michael Fassbender is a famous German actor who first caught the public’s attention by portraying Sergeant Burton Pat on HBO’s WWII series Band of Brothers, back in 2001. Since then, he became a major Hollywood star, starting with the role of the spartan warrior Stelios in 2006’s blockbuster 300.
With so many emblematic movies he’s starred in already, such as the 2011 X-Men: First Class, in which he took the role of Magneto, his net worth hangs around the sum of $40 million in 2021.
Early Life
Michael Fassbender was born on April 2, 1977, in Heidelberg, Germany, to a German father and Irish mother. When he was just two years old, his family decided to move to Ireland, to the small town of Killarney, in County Kerry, but he continued to spend his holidays in Germany together with his sister.
He went to Fossa National School and St. Brendan’s College and at the age of 17 he took a drama class hosted by Donie Courtney, who offered him a role in one of his plays. Thereafter, Fassbender decided to become an actor and he enrolled in theater and acting classes at the Drama Centre London.
In 1999, he dropped out of the Drama Centre to show up in the play The Three Sisters, produced by the Oxford stage company. Before starting his acting career, he had to work as a bartender and postman.
Acting Career
Fassbender first appeared in the television show Hearts and Bones, before taking the role of Sergeant Burton Pat in Steven Spielberg’s critically acclaimed World War II HBO mini-series Band of Brothers. He then got roles in several other small productions, before achieving mainstream success with his role in the fantasy action film 300 in 2006.
If for his role as a spartan he had to undergo some tough workout to be able to portray his character Stelios, two years later he needed to endure a 600 calories a day diet, before playing the Irish Republican Army prisoner Bobby Sands in the film Hunger.
Later on, in 2009, he landed roles in two more successful movies, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and the drama Fish Tank.
The next decade saw Fassbender star in other successful titles, such as X-Men: First Class (2011), Shame (2011), Prometheus (2012), the epic 12 Years a Slave (2013), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), 2015’s Steve Jobs and in 2016, X-Men: Apocalypse, and the adaptation of the famous video game Assassin’s Creed.
Fassbender’s acting abilities are beyond extraordinary when you think of the controversial, difficult and complex characters he portrays, pushing himself to physical and emotional extremes as the sex addict in Shame, the famous Steve Jobs, the brutal slave owner, the Irish Republican activist or the android in Prometheus and in the highly expected Alien: Covenant.
Other Work
Besides his acting career, Fassbender co-owns a production company, Finn McCool Films, which has under development a film about the Irish mythological hero Cu Chulainn.
The star has been putting his acting skills to work in commercials as well. He appeared in Guinness’ The Things That Matter advertising campaign: The Quarrel.
He was also the producer for Assassin’s Creed, Slow West and two other short movies, Zero and Pitch Black Heist.
Houses and Cars
Even if Hollywood has made Fassbender spend a lot of time in Los Angeles where he rents an apartment, the actor still considers London as his home. He lives alone in a big spacious house in East London, the same he’s had since his twenties.
Although few details slip out about his lifestyle and possessions, he was seen behind the steering wheel of a wonderful Porsche 356. And.. he rides a motorcycle once in a while.
He also seems to be really passionate about cars and races, as he sometimes goes out to a track to have some fun with powerful cars. He did that on a racetrack in Montreal, driving a Mustang GT to relax and forget about work while he was filming one of the X-Men movies.
Michael Fassbender Net Worth Over Time
While in the beginning of his acting career, he had to support himself with other trivial jobs to make a living, today, Michael Fassbender is a successful actor, with some impressive film titles under his belt.
We haven’t found much information about the evolution in time of his fortune, but we can tell you that each one of these movies earned him a nice paycheck. Last year for example he earned $1.3 million for Trespass Against Us, $1.8 million for The light between oceans and $2.5 million for X-Men: Apocalypse, rising his net worth to today’s sum of $40 million.
