The Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) taking place between the 19th and 23rd of January in Geneva is 25 this year, and as always the greatest watchmakers in the world are there exhibiting their luxurious creations. One of these is the Montblanc Villeret Tourbillon Cylindrique Geosphères Vasco da Gama.
As its name suggests, this stunning timepiece celebrates the great Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, the first European to reach India by sea. Underscoring the theme of early globalization and inspired by the illustrious navigator’s exploits, the watch features representations of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres on the lower part of the dial. In fact, the three-dimensional dial looks absolutely stunning, with a 281-component hand-wound tourbillon Calibre MB M68.40 powering a series of very impressive functions: a triple time zone with local time is displayed in the form of hours and minutes. By turning the watch, you get to see 24 cities engraved around the caseback and on the side, with a pusher at 8 o’clock helping you adjust the local time.
The Montblanc Villeret Tourbillon Cylindrique Geosphères Vasco da Gama will be released as a limited edition of 18 timepieces in rose gold.
