Christophe Claret is an independent Swiss watchmaker known for his unique, extremely complicated timepieces, such as the daisy-themed Margot we’ve showcased in the past. So it comes as a bit of a surprise that his new Maestoso simply tells the time.
Of course, things aren’t quite so simple. Christophe Claret decided to make things a little bit difficult for himself and settled on using a detent escapement for the Maestoso, a mechanism which is more precise than the traditional lever escapement, but is also more sensitive to movement and shock, which is why it is usually used in stationary time keepers. This means the watch needed three patented inventions as well as some innovative engineering to actually work properly on the wrist.
In addition to being remarkable from a technical standpoint, Maestoso is also quite easy on the eyes, with most of the movement can be clearly seen through the sapphire crystal. The watch will be released as three 20 piece limited editions: an 18kt red gold model with black ceramic lined hands, an 18kt white gold and titanium model with ruby hands, and an 18kt red gold and black PVC titanium version also with black hands. Prices for the three models will be $178,000, $182,000 and $186,000, respectively.
