The year 2014 sees Arnold & Son’s 250th anniversary, so expect to see a few special pieces from the British luxury watch manufacturer. This time it’s the limited edition “Dial Side True Beat”, or DSTB.
Its distinguishing feature is the “true beat seconds” complication, showcased in its entirety (the hands, the lever, the wheels as the three rose-gold treated true beat seconds bridges) on the dial side. The true beat seconds mechanism is a mechanical configuration which makes the seconds “sweep” rather than “tick” – and it’s usually a sign of great technical prowess, something one can expect from a brand like Arnold & Son.
The true beat seconds are indicated via a large sapphire dial that occupies the top left portion of the dial at 11 o’clock, while at the 4 o’clock position there’s a white lacquered domed subdial with blued hands indicates the hours and the minutes. As we’ve mentioned earlier, Arnold & Son always delivers the highest quality pieces, and the Caliber 6003 is no different, with its hand-chamfered and satin-finished lever and bridges, polished edges and fine circular graining and Côtes de Genève rayonnantes.
The DSTB, housed in a 43.5 mm, red gold case, and is a limited edition made up of just 50 pieces.
