Hacienda de la Paz

The incredible Hacienda de la Paz was listed for $53 million back in 2013, and got the attention it truly deserved. Now it’s back on the market and it’s as amazing as ever. This outrageous 51,000-square-feet estate is known as the “Underground Mansion” due to its extraordinary design with interesting secret amenities.

Sitting on a massive 8-acre compound in Rolling Hills, this amazing home meets the community’s one-story height limit – at least in theory. Above ground, the L-shaped, ranch-style main home includes an outdoor swimming pool and patio, with sublime views of the Pacific Ocean and City Of Angels.

A guesthouse, a six-car garage, an apartment, a red-clay tennis court, along with a reflecting pool, a bocce court, groves of olive trees and 23 other varieties of fruit and nut trees can also be found on the surface.

But nothing could prepare you for what’s hiding beneath. A team of artisans and master craftsmen from Spain, Italy, Portugal, and Morocco worked 17 years to complete the amazing home. They ended up digging five stories to accommodate a second tennis court, built to U.S. Open specifications.

Included are also an adjacent catering kitchen, well equipped to handle a party of 350 guests, as well as a dreamy indoor Spa, comprising of refreshment rooms and marble bathtubs surrounded by 24-karat-gold Venetian tile, steam rooms, massage showers, and a breathtaking indoor pool.

Why would anyone choose to live underground and ignore the beautiful setting and weather above is unclear, but I’m guessing this is a two-for-one package: the house of your dreams within the rules of the beautiful land it’s been built on. Perfection?
