Zannetti Pilot Skull

Every teenager who wants to stand out of the pack thinks skulls are so cool right now, although just a few of them are aware that this motif has been used as an expressive element in watchmaking for many, many years. For instance, almost five centuries ago, Maria Stuart, a former Queen of Scotland, played with a watch sculpted from a “head” shape, symbolizing “mememto mori”, but this type of watches goes even further back in time.

Its symbolical meaning has changed a lot as the years went by, and nowadays the skull acts just as a stunning way of differentiating watchmakers and owners from the crowd. That’s why Zannetti, an Italian manufacturer of all kinds of luxury goods, has picked the skull as the base for its new timekeeping wonder, a ravishing pocket watch that was simply called Zannetti Skull. Sure, it does not suit all tastes, but it’s well worth mentioning it was not designed to do such thing.

The brand’s Pirate Skull Pocket watch was revealed a few weeks ago at Baselworld 2017, and features a handmade skull in natural turquoise and 18kt yellow gold, while the Pilot Skull Pocket Watch is a handmade skull in silver and copper equipped with a Swiss quartz movement.

Feel free to go for the black wood or white rock versions, if you fancy those materials more. The Zannetti Skull is unsurprisingly part of a limited series, although we have no official information about pricing and availability – that, however, seems irrelevant at this moment in time.
