Design X Saber

With the latest part of the much appreciated series, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, on the way, fans are getting increasingly excited with every day that goes by. From fashion to home décor, the movie series has inspired a wide range of products, with the most recent one being a super cool light saber.

The San Francisco based design and research company Y Studios has launched the Design X Saber just a couple of days ago, re-imagining the Star Wars franchise’s iconic lightsaber with aesthetics inspired by famous designers like Zaha Hadid, Charles & Ray Eames, Issey Miyake, Edith Heath and Dieter Rams.

This means more options for potential customers, who may choose their favorite design when it comes to the lethal futuristic weapon.

One of the most impressive Design X sabers is definitely this one inspired by Zaha Hadid, with a curvy and intricate handle and abstract cutouts that are reminiscent of a hotel she designed last year. Next, inspired by samurai swords and geometry, the Issey Miyake lightsaber is sharp and edgy, with the handle referencing the designer’s Bao Bao bag. But wait, there’s more.

The iconic Eames Lounge Chair has inspired a wood-handled saber, with a walnut wood finish, cream or dark sable leather and lack metal in satin or chrome metal. Last, but not least, white high gloss plastic and matte or satin aluminum with an orange accent color is what makes the saber inspired by Dieter Rams stand out. At the end of the day, it’s all about the way you use the Force!
