Thanks to their fun and casual nature, trikes are the perfect vehicles to fit an electric motor on. This makes the ride just a little bit smoother and easier, while also keeping the costs very low. One of the most interesting electric trikes out there right now is the Johanson3, by Belgian industrial designer Johan Neerman.

This intriguing machine is designed as a so-called cargo bike, which uses the extra power from the electric engine to carry around two people, or a payload of up to 660 pounds. Another innovative feature is the fact that the rider doesn’t sit, but rather her or she leans back, with the feet resting on a plate, which makes getting on and off really easy (for those who prefer the traditional ways, however. sitting is also an option). Power comes from the 10-20 amp batteries which can be quickly recharged, but if you live somewhere with plenty of sunlight, there’s also a solar powered version.

The Johanson3 electric trike is available in five versions, designed for customers of different ages and different needs. These models can carry anywhere from 200 to over 600 pounds, and can reach speeds ranging from 9 to 50 mph. Prices vary from $2,600 to $3,900.
