McLaren has continued its rapid range extension by unveiling the brand’s ‘most attainable’ supercar, a stunning entry level McLaren 540C Coupe at the Shanghai Auto Show. Set to become the second member of the automaker’s Sport Series lineup, the 540C features a subtly revised aerodynamic package and a new set of wheels with a silver of stealth finish.

Even though this supercar is going to be the cheapest of McLaren’s Sport Series, it’s still powered by a massive 3.8L twin-turbo V8 which is able to produce 540 PS and 540 Nm of torque. It’s a little less powerful than the 570S but that’s more than enough to take this entry level model from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds and to a mind blowing top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph).

The interior of the McLaren 540C will have the same premium leather upholstery over the seats, dashboard and door panels and will also come with a seven inch infotainment system with Bluetooth and GPS navigation. McLaren also announced that this Coupe is better suited for everyday driving, thanks to retuned dampers.

Thanks to a carbon fiber monocoque body and aluminium body panels, the McLaren 540C will weight only 1,311 kg (2,890 lbs) which is more than 150 kg (330 lbs) lighter than its nearest competitor. The price for this beauty? It might be the most affordable McLaren, but it’s still priced at £126,000 or about $188,000!
