The Amazing Van Cleef & Arpels Midnight Planetarium Poetic Complication

Even though Van Cleef & Arpels is a luxury brand associated mostly with women’s jewelry, they might just have made one of the most beautiful watches ever: the Midnight Planetarium Poetic Complication.

This truly exquisite piece tells time via a shooting star that rotates along the edge of the face, but its basic functionality is greatly overshadowed by its other features.

The Midnight Planetarium also shows the movements of the six planets you can see from Earth with the naked eye (from Mercury to Saturn), which actually rotate around the Sun in real time, which means Mercury completes its journey in 88 days, while Saturn comes full circle in more than 29 years. Not only that, each of the planets is actually made from a different precious stone, too.

It’s clear that the matchmakers from Van Cleef & Arpels have really outdone themselves this time, making the Midnight Planetarium’s price of $245,000 seem perfectly justified.
