Announced at the end of 2014, the Roadster 3.0 is an optional upgrade to Tesla’s acclaimed two seater.

The next step in Elon Musk’s drive to make electric vehicles just as viable as conventional cars, this new model boasts an impressive range of 400 miles on a single charge. The engineers over at Tesla have managed to squeeze as much as they could from their battery pack – without any increase in size, the new battery outputs 70 kWh, compared to the previous version’s 53 kWh. Also contributing to the extra range are a series of design improvements, such as the retrofitable aerodynamic body kit (cutting down on drag) and the new tires with 20 percent less rolling-resistance.

To test, but also promote their new model, Tesla will take the Roadster 3.0 on a non-stop trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles. While the new battery pack hasn’t passed all the safety certification tests yet, Roadster owners will probably get their improved range sooner rather than later.
