Whenever you think of Egypt, the first thing that comes to mind is the pyramids. But the seconds is certainly the Nile. And one of the best places to experience the Nile in all of its glory is at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan hotel.

Recently redesigned by French interior designer Sybille de Margerie, the retreat offers a level of class and sophistication which is unparalleled in the area. There are 76 rooms and suites to choose from in the Old Palace Wing, where the charm and luxurious atmosphere of the original Victorian building has been well preserved. Illustrious guests like Agatha Christie and Winston Churchill stayed within these walls, and now give their names to the hotel’s most lavish suites. An additional 62 rooms and suites can also be found in the more recent Nile Wing.

There are no fewer than 8 dining establishments at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan hotel. Guests can sample authentic French dishes at 1902 Signature Restaurant, or a continental menu at Saraya. The Oriental-Kebabgy serves tasty treats prepared outside on hot coals, while at Palms guests can have a light snack near the pool.

For a deeply reinvigorating treatment, one can head over to the So SPA, a 13,000-square-foot space with 8 treatment rooms, an indoor heated pool, Jacuzzi, and hammam. More active guests, on the other hand, have the So FIT by Sofitel high-end fitness center at their disposal.
