Dietrich Mateschitz, the founder of the Red Bull energy drink company, has impressed everyone once again with his latest purchase: a $1.7 million submarine called the DeepFlight Super Falcon. Built by Hawkes Ocean Technologies, this submarine works differently than most subs out there, thanks to its movable wings that provide negative lift and allow this craft to move in three dimensions like an underwater airplane.

That’s how this bespoke submarine combines the agility of a dolphin with its submersible abilities. It features two acrylic domes with a refractive index which means the glass almost blends with the water once the submarine is immersed giving the occupant’s the sensation of riding in an open cockpit right in the heart of the sea.

The submarine is propelled by lithium batteries and it could reach a speed of 4 knots, going down to 400 feet underwater. That’s more than enough to swim along side sharks and exotic fish right next to Fiji. That’s because this submarine was designed for Dietrich Mateschitz’s Laucala resort in Fiji and starting this November, guests of the resort could get a two-hour ride with this water toy for $1,700. It’s not that much and I bet it’s totally worth it!
