Rancho San Carlos is a stunning property located in Santa Barbara, California, which has been owned by a single family ever since it was developed over 80 years ago. Now, for the first time, the estate has been put on the market and is awaiting its new owners.

Designed in 1931 by master architect Reginald Johnson, the hilltop mansion overlooks a property stretching across a huge 237 acres. Sprawling over the hills of Montecito, it offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean (which, a lot like the property itself, stretches as far as the eyes can see), as well as a great sense of privacy.

The house itself is equally as impressive. It boasts almost 30,000-square-feet of living space, which include no fewer than 12 bedrooms, plus 10 full and 3 half bathrooms. The lavish nature of the construction is underscored by the barrel vaulted central gallery which connects the splendid public rooms to the upper bedroom wings, and is lined with hand-painted period murals and windowed display cases. The airy and extravagant library, formal living and dining rooms are also in the same vein.

Rancho San Carlos is a very impressive estate in both scale and levels of luxury – and it comes with a price tag to match its grandeur: a staggering $125 million!
