Overlooking the Atlantic from the Cliffs of Cascais: Faros Design Hotel

Perched atop the cliffs of Cascais, about 20 miles west of the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, Farol Design Hotel is a spectacular retreat overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

The hotel is an intriguing mix between a remodeled late 19th century mansion and a markedly modern extension completed back in 2002. Just as the hotel is set where land and sea meet, it is also a place where the old meets the new – thus making the spot even more charming.

Accommodations include 33 elegant and well-appointed guest rooms, a lineup which includes four suites, nine designer rooms (conceived and decorated by famous Portuguese and international fashion designers), and one Penthouse. All rooms feature such amenities as hydro-massage bathtubs, some offer soothing garden views, while others take advantage of the resort’s location and open up to stunning ocean views.

When you get hungry, head on over to the Mix Restaurant or Sushi Design and enjoy a tasty meal in a comfortable and pleasant setting. You can then move to Bar Farol for a nice night out, or to Bar on the Rocks and listen to the waves rhythmically crashing on the rocks beneath, as the rocks melt in your glass.
